Real estate developer, philanthropist Jack Benaroya has died – Puget Sound Business Journal

Seattle real estate developer, civic leader and philanthropist Jack A. Benaroya, 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, according to his family.

“The guy is a legend in terms of real estate development,” said Jim Bowles, senior managing director for the greater Puget Sound area for CBRE, the real estate services firm. “He was one of the preeminent, if not the preeminent, developers of large industrial projects and he built a great company that is now led by his son, Larry.”

Bowles said Jack Benaroya had a “leading-edge vision” of where industrial development would occur and helped turn the Kent Valley into an industrial hub for the region.

In addition to business parks, the company built facilities for Boeing, Parkway Plaza in Tukwila and the Design Center Northwest and 6100 Gift Mart in Seattle. Benaroya’s industrial projects were distinguished by an attention to design and landscaping.
